All Pets Want for Christmas Blog Hop – Karma’s Wish

Christmas is a great time of year – full of decorations, donations, gifts, the act of giving, and visiting family.  Our golden retriever’s favorite part of Christmas is definitely the gifts, though.  She’s not a big fan of the decorations (the giant blow up penguin scares her) or the long drive to visit family in NJ and PA (we live in Florida).  She just wants gifts in the form of Frisbees, tennis balls, and squeaky toys.

Karma Christmas

Meet Karma, a nearly four year old golden retriever who was given up three times before she met us.  We rescued her through a wonderful organization here in Florida called the Gulf Coast Golden Retriever Rescue.  They took her in from a family who wanted to breed her. Karma is not good with other dogs and wanted no part of the breeding operations, so they wanted to get rid of her.

Yvette, the beautiful soul who runs the GCGRR organization, found out that Karma was kept in a kennel for most of her first year of life and developed “the spins”, a sort of neurological thing where she will spin in circles when she is excited.  That first owner did irreparable damage and gave her up without even blinking.  Yvette also discovered that Karma was abused for being too high energy by the second owner.  Needless to say, she is in very good hands now.  She came with the name Karma and she was so responsive to it that we did not have the heart to change it.  Besides, it was karma that brought her to us.

Karma Frisbee

All Karma wants to do is play Frisbee 24/7.  Unfortunately, we recently found out that she has a heart murmur.  Play time has been reduced to a healthy amount to keep her in shape and happy but not hurt her.  We know the signs of when she’s had enough, but she does not like being told it’s time to go home.

If Karma could have anything on her wishlist, it would be an automatic Frisbee or ball thrower.  She would be in heaven running and jumping to catch a Frisbee or ball all day long.  And when she was done playing, she would want a personal petter to sit there and pet her all day long.  Right now, her daddy is her personal petter but, like mommy, he has a job that he has to go to and he can’t be there all day every day to pet her as she would like.  She would also like a kitty friend to keep her entertained while mommy and daddy are at work.  She’s asked for one a few times (and so has mommy), but daddy claims that he is allergic.  Karma doesn’t believe him (neither does mommy).

Most of all, she wishes that more people would adopt rescue dogs like her so that those dogs could experience love too.

  1. Thank you for this beautiful post and for taking part in the hop as well.

Karma is one special dog and you deserve enormous credit for giving her such an amazing new life. I’m sorry about what she has been through in the past but this is a story with a happy ending.

My wife and I adopted all six of our cats and we’re glad we have. Each one is unique and special though they run rings around me every day.

  2. Karma is beautiful, and what a cool name for a dog. We had a rescue dog when I was a teen. She was a white boxer called Bianca and two years old. I don’t know if it’s the same now, but back then they used to put white boxers to sleep as the breeders didn’t recognise them! But she was a lovely dog. We had another, Penny, also white, and she was a pup. They were inseparable. Eventually, Bianca learned not to be scared of everything, esp sudden noises and movements, and she also learned how to play.
Your story reminded me of this. I’m so glad that Karma found a wonderful home too.
Thanks for taking part in the hop 🙂

  3. Oh, Bianca and Penny sound like beautiful dogs! It’s such a shame that some dogs are ‘punished’ for not fitting the ideals of a breed. I am so glad that your family was able to give those girls a happy life where they could know love and what it was like to play.

Thank you so much for hosting the blog hop and for taking the time to read Karma’s story!

  4. This post really connected, because my Shakespeare (who co-wrote our blog hop post at was also a rescue — we were his fourth home at less than a year old. He’ll be 13 in a couple of weeks and he’ll never go anywhere else!

So glad that Karma has a great home now! May she fetch and Frisbee for years to come!
